FLOWER CARE
We want you to enjoy your flowers for as long as possible, so we have created a source of information to help get the best from your blooms. Read through carefully and follow our flower care guide for helpful tips and tricks on how to care for your flowers
WATER HYGIENE
Add a teaspoon of sugar and bleach, per litre of water, to keep your water clean, balanced and your flowers nourished.
BOUQUET AND POSY CARE
Unwrap: Congratulations on receiving a bouquet or posy of fresh cut flowers from Neon Flori. If you have received your flowers at work, you can leave them wrapped until you get home as their stems are protected with wet wrap. When you are ready to place them in a vase remove all wrap and packaging.
Clean: Clean the flower stems. Stripping all the leaves below the water level will stop bacteria growing in the water.
Cut: Cut the stems at an angle so that the stems won't sit flat on the bottom of the vase as this may stop the water uptake through the stems.
Vase: Select a vase that is the right size for your flowers. We try to keep the height of the vase 40 to 60% of the height of your bouquet (and always make sure it is clean. Bacteria is the worst enemy of fresh flowers).
Water: Fill the vase with tap water. There is no need to add anything to the water just make sure it is clean and at room temperature! Arrange the flowers in the vase. You can leave the string that is tying the stems together or remove it if you would prefer a looser look for your floral display.
Position: Avoid direct sunlight, heat, bright light and draughts as these could wilt your flowers. Place your flowers somewhere that you can admire your beautiful vase. But remember to avoid heat, direct sunlight, windows and strong draughts. Flowers will last longer in a cool room and if you keep them out of direct sunlight.
Admire: Arrange your flowers and sit back and enjoy the view. Replenish the water frequently. Change the water entirely every 2 days to prolong the life of your blooms.
FLOWER ARRANGEMENT CARE
Top up: Congratulations on receiving a flower arrangement from Neon Flori. Just in case any water was spilled whilst your flowers were being delivered check that the vessel has plenty of water and top it up if needed.
Change: Change the water every few days to keep it clean and fresh smelling. Simply tilt the vessel over the sink and drain the water. Removing fading blooms and leaves. Top it up with water and repeat every 2 days.
REMOVING LILY POLLEN
Remove the lily pollen as soon as the blooms starts to open. Doing it early means the pollen is less messy and won’t stain fingers, clothes or surfaces.
Simply pluck the pollen out of the bloom. Don’t cut them off with scissors. This is unsightly and looks very unnatural in the completed arrangement.
PHALAENOPSIS ORCHIDS AND HYDRANGEAS
Phalaenopsis orchids and Hydrangeas can be fully submerged in water overnight once a week to help longevity.
AIR PLANT TERRARIUM CARE
Day to Night: During the day remove the glass dome from the terrarium and at night place the glass dome back onto the wooden base. This will allow your air plants to breath during the day and at night protected in a humid environment.
Position: They should receive bright, indirect sunlight. Indoors, an east or west facing window area is ideal.
Watering: As a general rule, a plant in a hot position will require watering every 2-3 days. In a dark, humid environment watering once per week can often be adequate. This can be achieved by gently removing the air plant from its sea urchin shell and misting or dunking the plant. When dunking a plant, leave submerged in a bowl of water for 10-20 minutes before shaking off excess water. Air plants love to dry out completely between each watering and must never have water sitting at their base as this will cause the plant to rot.
ORCHID PLANT CARE
Orchid plants should be kept in a well‐lit place but out of direct sunlight.
Avoid draughts and extreme temperatures of below 12°c or above 25°c.
Water/mist the roots and leaves regularly (approx. once a week) avoiding the flowers. The roots should remain moist but should not sit in water.
Wipe any dust from the leaves as required to ensure light reaches the foliage.
If this care guide is followed, orchid flowers should last for approx. 4-6 weeks. Once the plant has finished flowering, cut the flower stem back to the third node above the leaves. In time a new flower stem may appear.
ANTHURIUMS PLANT CARE
Anthuriums like humid conditions. Keep the pot on a tray of moist gravel or mist with water several times a week.
Keep soil moist, but not wet. Allow the top inch or so of soil to dry slightly between waterings.
Fertilise with a houseplant fertiliser high in phosphorus every 2 weeks in spring and summer.
Repot every 2 years, or when the plant becomes pot-bound.
Keep away from pets and children, as parts of the plant can cause mouth irritation and stomach distress if ingested.
